Hi there!
I sometimes still can’t believe that anyone besides me enjoys coming along on this weird word journey each week. I’m so glad you’re here reading New-To-Me Phrases.
Aside from a couple of short breaks, I’ve been writing this newsletter weekly for over two years, and it’s the most fun I’ve had as a writer. I never get sick of it, and I never want to stop writing it. This tells me I’m on to something, and NTMP is not going away any time soon.
However, I also want to pursue other creative projects that are every bit as fun, and those require time and focus to produce. Given the fullness of my life at this stage, where I am guiding two neurospicy young adults into adulthood, managing my own health needs, and doing the day job work that keeps the lights on, there’s not a ton of space left over for learning and creating, like taking Amy Paturel’s AMAZING class, Writing the Personal Essay—which I did earlier this year and cannot recommend enough! Get on her mailing list!
But there could be a bit more space to make more weird dumb stuff if I shifted to delivering NTMP every other week instead of weekly. So that’s what I’m going to do.
For now, nothing else about NTMP will change, except that I expect that it will only become more awesome, with additions like NTMP PowerPoint Parties1 and other fun stuff I have planned (NTMP zines! NTMP swag!).
There’s a robust archive of editions to peruse on off weeks, and a directory I’m building behind the scenes that links to past editions by topic. What other categories should I be listing there?
And now . . a poll!
I didn’t do a February poll because I was traveling. I don’t think that skipping a month broke the universe, so let’s get excited about our faves from the last two months:
My sincere thanks to readers like you who welcome me into your crowded inboxes each week, and also to readers who are willing and able to become paid subscribers or to buy me a coffee once in a while, which helps me financially sustain this project and gives me hope that art and humor still have value in a world that feels at times like it very much does not.
That’s it for this edition. See you in two Sundays! 🎉
These need a better name—ideas? NTMPPPP?
I second taking Amy's classes! So good!
