We have a very small front porch, even calling it a porch feels like a misuse of the word. If we had one, I wouldn’t hang out there though. Impromptu small talk with strangers is a nightmare for me. 😂However, I grew up in an old house built in the late 1800s, a little bungalow with a fantastic front porch. It even had a swing. I spent a lot of time playing on it as a kid and when I got older, reading books while laying on the swing. It was pretty great.
I was definitely thinking of introverts when I asked that question about porches, Kim! My husband would feel the same way as you -- unless it was neighbors we knew, then he'd feel better about it.
Yes about the neighbors we know! We live on a cul de sac (I am philosophically opposed to cul de sacs so it’s annoying that we live at the end of one) and our backyard connects to the yards of five other homes. I do enjoy a good chat over the fence with any of those folks.
